New Orleans shouldn't have to fight for what's ours.
Last month, Republicans on the State Bond Commission blocked more than $30 million in funding for vital construction projects in the New Orleans community in response to Mayor Cantrell's common-sense COVID-19 safety measures.
This wasn't the first time Republicans on this board targeted New Orleans for political reasons, and it won't be the last. On August 26, Mayor Cantrell said of the Bond Commission blocking funding, "I wasn’t surprised by this heartless move and you shouldn’t be either. The practice of Republican lawmakers punishing and pre-empting New Orleans for progressive policies is not new."
The Bond Commission meets again this Thursday. At that meeting, the commission will vote again on whether or not to continue allowing New Orleans to fund crucial necessities like schools and hospitals. Those who could be affected include Orleans Parish Schools, City Park, Children's Hospital, SUNO, NOCCA, LSU Health Sciences Center, the New Orleans Veterans' Affairs Building, the West Bank Ferry Terminal, and more.
