Team,
Yesterday, Senate Democrats released a new compromise bill on voting rights, following the House passage of the For The People Act.
This bill was put together to satisfy Democratic holdouts like Joe Manchin, who have so far refused to support this critical legislation.
It’s not perfect, but this compromise would help counter many of the voter suppression and anti-democracy tactics Republicans are using in states like Texas, Georgia, Arizona, and elsewhere.
That’s why it’s so important that we turn up the pressure on Senators Manchin, Sinema, and others to put aside the filibuster and pass this legislation immediately. We have no time to wait.
Make no mistake: our democracy is at risk if we don’t act soon. In Texas, we saw Democratic state legislators use every tool in the toolbox to block Republicans from passing their suppression bill. But in the end, Governor Abbott signed it into law.
But it’s not too late. This voting rights compromise bill would essentially make the Texas law null and void — and it would do important things like making Election Day a national holiday.
We need Senators Manchin, Sinema, and every other holdout to realize what’s at stake here. Republicans in states like Texas are hellbent on attacking voting rights, and right now the filibuster is standing in the way of us fighting back.
Thanks,
Julián
