When we came up short of our projected fundraising goal last month, I told you: this is not the end of the world.
I meant that when I said it. Instead of aggressively fundraising to make up the ground we lost as soon as possible, we connected our grassroots supporters with the causes that needed their help most.
That looked like raising funds for the Haiti Emergency Relief Fund after the earthquake, the National Network of Abortion Funds in the wake of Texas’ ban on abortions, the IRC of Northern California assisting with Afghan refugee resettlement, and Gov. Newsom’s campaign to defeat the right-wing recall here in California.
Since this is an off-cycle year for our campaign, we have time to close the gap by setting even higher, more ambitious goals in the lead-up to next year’s midterm elections, when our goals will matter even more.
But with a public fundraising deadline approaching at the end of September, I’m concerned we may be falling too far behind. The last thing House Democrats like Barbara need is to report declining fundraising totals for the likes of political commentators, House Republicans, and shady GOP spenders to scrutinize.
John, I’m hoping we can make up some ground and set us on a better path before our End-of-Quarter push by setting a mid-month goal of $9,731 — the amount we came up short last month.
