Proposed SNAP Rule Field Call for States Losing Benefits: Understanding the Rule and Taking Action
Call TODAY from 4:15-5:15 Eastern Time
Please join our friends at the Center for American Progress, the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, Feeding America, and FRAC for a state-focused call TODAY, Tuesday, October 22, to learn more about the Trump administration’s third attack on SNAP this year and how to take action. The call for your state will be from 4:15-5:15 ET. Click to register for the call here.
This marks the third time this year that the administration has sidestepped the will of Congress to gut one of the nation’s most effective anti-hunger and anti-poverty programs. The proposed rule would cut SNAP benefits by $4.5 billion over five years, and again, will hurt households with children, seniors, and people with disabilities the most.
Overall, USDA estimates that:
- Nearly 8 thousand households will lose their SNAP benefits entirely;
- 7 million people in 3 million households will lose at least some benefits. Of that 7 million people, CBPP estimates:
- 68 percent will be in households with children;
- 20 percent will be in households with seniors; and
- 29 percent will be in households that include someone with a disability.
