Hi Friend, My name is Darcy and I’ve known, and volunteered with Annamie Paul for a long while. This election, I am focussed on community outreach and I wanted to share with you some of the amazing things our team in Toronto Centre has seen on the campaign trail. Green campaigns are unique. In signature Green style, we innovate, we stay positive and we do politics differently because we truly care about offering our communities real representation in Parliament. We choose to #BeDaring for a better future, and we invite those around us to be daring too. The Toronto Centre campaign has brought in community leaders from social housing communities to join our efforts to elect Annamie. These folks have introduced us to their neighbours and sparked important conversations. We've put ads in newspapers in Bengali and Tamil, and made posters in several languages to make our campaign more accessible and welcoming to the vibrant and diverse population in the riding. Earlier in the pandemic, Toronto Centre volunteers – with Annamie's “Mutual Aid Team” – supplied community groups with items they needed, from laptops and repurposed cell phones, to grocery gift cards, and flowering plants for isolated seniors. We engaged with the Muslim community to learn about Ramadan, and spoke at a local mosque. And just last week, Annamie held a rally for housing in St. James Town, Canada's most densely populated neighbourhood, handing out popsicles to kids and talking to hundreds of residents who were eager to have a leader – an elected representative – who understands their concerns about affordability. This work is thanks to passionate volunteers, Greens from across the country and supporters who do what they can, when they can. Thank you, Greens! I hope you’re with us in daring to change politics for the better, and building a brighter future for all of us. We have hope, we’re excited and we’re grateful to have your support. Darcy Higgins |
