Friend,
Today, September 15, is the start of Hispanic Heritage Month!
As NextGen’s Pennsylvania Organizing Manager, I wanted to share what Hispanic Heritage Month means to me.
Hispanic Heritage Month is not only a fiesta but a period of time where we recognize, appreciate, and honor the many cultures and contributions of the Hispanic and Latinx communities in the United States.
As a Latina, first-generation American, and daughter of Puerto Rican immigrants, I am proud of how far the Latinx community has come, and look forward to the many accomplishments we can achieve together.
Act now: Sign up to volunteer with us as we work together to mobilize and uplift the voices of all young voters, in all communities, across the country.
I also want to take this time to spotlight the incredible impact Latinx youth voters had on the 2020 election.
Here are just some of the amazing outcomes of the hard work Latinx organizers put in to elect President Biden and Vice President Harris:
- 73 percent of young Latinx voters voted for President Biden in the 2020 election.
- 20.6 million Latinx voters cast their ballots in 2020, a 63 percent increase from the last presidential election.
- Latinx young voters make up 40 percent of all eligible Latinx voters.
NexGen understands the power and influence of young Latinx voters. In 2020, we communicated with 1.3 million young Latinx voters through texts, calls, mail, and more.
NextGen received more than 29,000 pledges to vote from Latinx voters in 2020 — and we’re increasing this number as we work toward the 2022 midterm elections.
To put it simply, we would not be here today without the incredible movement of the Latinx youth.
Volunteer with us to ensure youth voters in all communities know the impact and importance of their voices.
Thank you,
Natalie Monteiro
