John, you're probably hearing a lot about the Build Back Better Act — a budget reconciliation bill Democrats in Congress are hashing out right now in committee hearings and negotiations. But you're probably not hearing enough about what this bill really means for working families.
While there’s still a lot of work to do, we thought it would be useful to take a step back and break down just some of the historic investments in our communities that could become a reality if this bill becomes law.
Here’s what the passage of the Build Back Better Act could mean:
🏥 Expanding Medicare to include dental, vision, and hearing
💊 Lowering prescription drug prices
🏫 Universal pre-k and free tuition for two-year public community college
🧒🏾 Extending the expanded Child Tax Credit, which provides monthly payments of $250 or $300 per child to the vast majority of parents in this country raising children
👪 Paid family and medical leave for all
👩🏽⚕️ Investments in home and community-based care for elderly and disabled folks
🇺🇸 A pathway to citizenship for millions of our undocumented neighbors
🥾 A Civilian Conservation Corps program to put young people to work in ways that will combat climate change and increase resilience to extreme weather
🚰 Investments to eliminate lead drinking water pipes
🚍 Major investments in clean energy, grid resiliency, electric vehicles (including buses), and electric vehicle charging infrastructure
🏘️ Investments in affordable housing
💪🏽 Expanding union organizing rights
💵 Significantly increasing taxes on the wealthy and big corporations
And so, so much more.

So what’s next? Progressives in Congress are fighting tooth and nail to hold on to the promise of the full $3.5 trillion for these investments, while obstructionist Democrats and Republicans are doing everything in their power to water them down.
In the next few days, we’ll get a better sense of whether Democrats will really deliver or if fossil fuel companies, drug companies, and corporate lobbyists will succeed in bending Congress to their will.
We can’t afford to let up — not with so much on the line for working people. Will you make a grassroots contribution of $3 toward our September Organizing Fund goal of $10,000 so we can get this historic reconciliation bill across the finish line?
Chip in $3
Opportunities like the one in front of us don’t come around often. Working Families Party members have been organizing on behalf of these progressive issues and more for decades, John — and we now have a great shot into making these key parts of our agenda into law. Let’s make it happen.
In solidarity,
Maurice
