September is not just National Preparedness Month. It's also National Suicide Awareness Prevention Month.

Suicide prevention isn't talked about much by preppers. We plan for disasters and hardship. But do we know how to help others handle the despair that often comes along with those events?

Please remember the vulnerable, the isolated, the struggling, and our veterans amongst whom suicide is its own pandemic. (Veterans have a 50% higher chance of dying from suicide than those who have not served.)

These tips can help you recognize the signs and know what to say and do if you are concerned about someone's state of mind.

I know that I have personally been through some situations I don't write about in which I felt so hopeless and broken that it seemed there was no way out of them. When getting out of bed seemed monumental, and I was just so very tired, deep in my soul.

If you’ve ever struggled with depression, anxiety, or suicidal thoughts, what did you find that helped you the most? Share your hard-earned wisdom on suicide prevention in the comments. You never know when a simple comment on a website might make a true difference in somebody’s life.
