Hello Friend,

The new Texas abortion law is an unconstitutional affront to our democratic principles, the rule of law, and to women. We write today to urge you to sign our Open Letter that condemns the pernicious vigilante system created by the law and denounces the unconstitutional attack on the 50 years of precedent established by Roe v. Wade. We also ask that bar associations and others in the legal profession become engaged in ensuring this law is defeated, that no other state enacts a similar measure, and that the constitutional rights of women are protected.

The authors of this legislation knew that a bill banning abortions at such an early stage of pregnancy would violate Roe v. Wade. Accordingly, they sought to frustrate a constitutional challenge by prohibiting any enforcement by state actors and, instead, turn citizens into vigilantes by deputizing the public to sue anyone who helps a women seeking an abortion, and paying them if they are successful.

This modern-day bounty hunt endangers the health and well-being of women and effectively ends abortion in Texas.

Time is of the essence. We ask that you please join as a signatory within the next 48 hours and encourage your friends, family members, and colleagues to do the same. Unlike past Open Letters, you do not need to be a lawyer to sign.

We thank you in advance for your attention and support,
