Friend,

In the past few days, we’ve seen major developments in our fight to pass a pathway to citizenship into law. We wanted to make sure you’re up to speed on the legislative fight in Congress and how the next few weeks are absolutely vital.

Last month, Democrats took a critical step by putting a pathway to citizenship for Dreamers, TPS holders, farmworkers, and other essential workers into what is called their “Budget Resolution.” On Monday night, the House kept up the momentum by passing a pathway to citizenship out of the Judiciary Committee — and now, it heads to a vote on the floor of the House.

This is a huge step forward! In the next few weeks, we need the Senate and the House to pass the actual underlying budget reconciliation package.

So, if you're one of the vast majority of Americans who support a pathway to citizenship, then now is the time to make that support clear.

The entire Democratic caucus in both the House and the Senate have already voted in support of these efforts, highlighting the unified support for these overwhelmingly popular bipartisan policies that will help keep our economy growing and our families together.

In the Senate, in addition to needing the votes of all 50 Senate Democrats to pass, discussions are underway to make sure these provisions are permissible under certain restrictions that exist. This is sometimes called the “Byrd Rule.” We remain confident, because of substantial and direct economic and budgetary impact, that these immigration provisions can be done via reconciliation.

The economic benefits of a pathway to citizenship are so clear that a group of more than 50 economists just released a letter urging Congress to keep a pathway to citizenship in the final bill. This follows another letter released this week by more than 700 local officials from across the country who urged Congressional leaders to include immigration provisions in the bill.

That’s why it’s vital that those of us who support a pathway to citizenship make it clear that this is the right thing to do for our families, the economy, and our country.
