Hey there,
I hope you’re having a great day today! I have three little words to share with you…
NOT. ONE. PENNY.
That’s how much Hillsdale College accepts in federal or state funding.
To remain free and independent, we even reject indirect aid, such as student grants and loans.
This makes us almost unique among American colleges and universities, which gorge themselves on billions of taxpayer dollars each year. We say “No, thanks” to corrupting government funds so that we can say “YES!” to something even better…
Refusing to take government money means we are FREE of corrupting bureaucratic meddling. Just consider the recent Title IX controversies you may have read about in the news...what a mess! In other words, we say “YES!” to independence.
This independence also allows for something else—something at the heart of our mission. It allows us to reach and teach millions of Americans about our nation’s great heritage of liberty.
A few years ago, we made a short animated video about our independence from government money. Perhaps you’ve seen it, but if not, here’s a link to watch the video and share it with your friends. It’s a great (and short!) explanation of how and why we’ve taken this unique stance.

As the video mentions, our independence is only possible because of the support of citizens like you who understand the importance of education to liberty.
And there’s a group of donors who are the bedrock of this outreach effort—the Liberty & Learning Society.
You’ve probably seen some emails from my colleagues and me about the Liberty & Learning Society over the last few days.
You’re getting those emails because we’re in the middle of our Constitution Day campaign to recruit 1,500 more dedicated Liberty & Learning Society members.
In case you missed those messages, I’ll tell you a little bit about the Liberty & Learning Society. Simply put, these faithful men and women are a steady, generous group of our most dedicated benefactors.
They make a monthly tax-deductible gift, which gives our mission a strong base of support. That’s because they automatically advance the critical work of defending liberty through education, seven days a week, 365 days a year.
From now until Constitution Day on September 17, we’re hoping that more and more supporters like you will answer the call and become one of the Liberty & Learning Society’s newest members.
To join (and watch your video), all you have to do is click on the secure link below. Then follow the simple directions. That’s it—no fuss, no hassle! And you can cancel anytime. It really is that easy.

Please take a moment to watch the fun video about our independence, and please consider joining the Liberty & Learning Society.
When you do, you’ll help ensure that we can keep saying “YES!” to defending liberty through education without ONE PENNY of government support.
Thanks for reading my email, and I hope you have a great rest of your day.
