Hello,
Once again our nation is at a critical point in history. This month, the Supreme Court upheld Texas’ restrictive 6 week abortion ban. Not only does the bill restrict access to healthcare before many women even know they are pregnant, it encourages neighbors to turn in neighbors; promising an incentive of up to $10,000.
While this was passed in Texas, just this year there was an attempt for the same type of legislation to prevail in Iowa. It’s important that Iowans stand up and tell our leaders that legislation like this has no place in Iowa.
If you agree, I need you to use your voice in this critical time. We need 1,000 signatures on our petition to protect women’s bodily autonomy »
As a woman of faith, I know how personal this issue can be to many voters. But the truth of the matter is, the government should not be in charge of telling people how to express their faith.
Iowa is facing so many challenges right now. We are still recovering from the derecho, fighting to keep our vulnerable populations safe in the ongoing pandemic, and rebuilding our economy. Restrictive abortion laws do not make our communities safer, grow our economy, or move us forward.
As your governor, I want to create communities where mothers and children can thrive. Where we focus on solving the real issues at hand, rather than proving a political point.
Unfortunately, we know our Governor looks to other states to lead the way, rather than focusing on what Iowans truly want. We saw this just last session when the reserve voting bill -- written by people outside of Iowa -- passed on partisan lines. We can’t let what happened in Texas happen here.
We need leadership that will not rush to follow what other states are doing, but will fight for the will of the people and what is best for Iowans. Add your name NOW! »
Thank you,
Deidre
