The gun violence epidemic is growing more urgent by the day. There have been nearly 500 mass shootings so far in 2021—almost two per day. For the first time in years, we have a gun responsibility champion in the White House and gun safety majorities in both chambers of Congress. And yet Congress has STILL not taken action to address the gun violence epidemic. That’s all because of the filibuster.
The filibuster is the reason Congress can’t pass a universal background check bill, despite the fact that more than 90 percent of Americans support the policy. It’s the reason Congress has not closed the deadly Charleston loophole or strengthened federal domestic violence protections.
The filibuster allows a few senators, beholden to the gun lobby, to stand in the way of long-overdue gun responsibility laws that would save countless American lives. We cannot accept this status quo.
Please, contact your Senators today and demand an end to the filibuster.
We know what it takes to prevent gun violence. We need leaders with the courage to act.
Thank you for fighting for a safer future,
