Jack, the role of elected officials is to serve the people. That’s the job.
But some elected officials don’t think that’s their job. When the opposition passes legislation, like Texas did last week with Senate Bill 1, to make voting even harder, especially for communities of color, not only are they not doing their job, they are harming these communities.
When any government official anywhere tries to suppress the vote, our democratic right, they are not doing their jobs. They aren’t serving people -- they are serving partisan radicals.
Maggie became the Secretary of State of New Mexico to fight to end voter suppression, making it easier - not harder - for people to exercise their constitutional right in a democracy. She’s doing her job, and she wants to keep doing her job.
