Climate Inaction Is the "Greatest Threat" to Global Health 

An editorial published in more than 200 health and medical journals warns that rising temperatures “risk catastrophic harm to health that will be impossible to reverse.” It urges wealthy countries to go beyond announced targets and cut emissions to compensate for their cumulative emissions. PODCAST: How the Clean Air Catalyst is Fixing the Air Quality Problem 

Air pollution is linked to more than six million premature deaths every year. To save lives, WRI’s Clean Air Catalyst initiative — which launched a new website last week — is identifying local pollution sources and finding solutions for cleaner, healthier air. In a recent episode of WRI’s Big Ideas into Action Podcast, WRI México Air Quality Director Beatriz Cardenas notes recent progress, explaining that cleaner air in Mexico City means that “citizens have expanded their lifetime by almost three years.” Learn more.

How US Cities and Corporations Can Collaborate on Clean Energy 

For U.S. cities and corporations, buying renewable energy can be a confusing and complicated process, with different opportunities and regulations from state-to-state. New WRI research, led by Lacey Shaver, identifies four pathways for cities and corporations to jointly advance a clean energy transition. One pathway: create forums for residents and businesses to learn the ins-and-outs of renewable energy together. Read more.

Apply Now: Grants and Loans for Restoring Tree Cover in Africa 

African nations have pledged to begin restoring more than 100 million hectares of degraded land by 2030 through the AFR100 Initiative. But they need support. Funders are responding by using WRI-led TerraMatch to finance Africa’s top 100 tree restoration enterprises and projects.
