Transit Month: Online Events & Advocacy

TONIGHT 5:30PM: Talk with SFMTA about 2022 Muni Service Plan proposals

How is Muni going to meet demand, which is already showing huge crowding on some routes? How is Muni going to connect riders who've lost the nearby service they had before the pandemic?

Muni was beginning to focus on funding shortages before the pandemic, and now ridership has changed and thrown everything into question.

Hear directly from Director of Transportation Jeff Tumlin and senior planning staff about their 3 proposed plans for 2022 Muni service. Bring your questions for some answers!

Sept 22: Transit Safety For All

Rider safety is a key feature of a well-run transit system. Incidents of harassment, crime, and violence on transit vehicles and near transit stops compromise riders’ safety, degrade their sense of dignity, and dissuade many from using transit.

But safety means different things to different people. As we talk about safety and how we can achieve it, we must center the diverse experiences and needs of those who ride.

Join the discussion to sort through the issues and possible solutions.

Sept. 29: Reducing Emissions, Improving Transit

We know Muni is one of the most efficient ways to move people around. Before the pandemic, Muni served over 700,000 daily trips while contributing less than 1% of the city's greenhouse gases.

What is the city's climate action plan? How does public transit fit in with our climate goals?

Join a discussion with Director of the San Francisco Department of the Environment Debbie Raphael, SFMTA Planning Director Sarah Jones of SFMTA, and Engineer and Planner Theresa Whinery of Fehr & Peers about our goals, our plans, and how advocates can get involved.

DEADLINE Sept. 19: Nominate a Transit Hero!

On October 1, we'll hold our 4th annual Rider First Awards party (outdoors, vaccinated, time and location coming soon), along with East Bay Transit Riders Union, Seamless Bay Area, and Friends of Caltrain.

We need YOUR nominations for people who have made life better for transit riders in the past year - a special bus driver, an effective advocate, whoever is responsible for the transit lanes or boarding island that makes your ride better and smoother (if you tell us what they did, we'll track down the people!).

We've got the start of some excellent nominations - what a great community we have!

Who is the hero you've seen, who cares about public transit and cares about the riders, and has taken action to improve our ride? Let us know!

Ride-Along & Rally - Let's Fund Muni!

Our Ride-Along & Rally was a huge success! Thanks to our board of directors, and our dedicated members and volunteers, for making it happen. Thanks to the entire board of supervisors and Mayor London Breed for showing up for Muni. Thanks to everyone for showing up and speaking up!

Every city leader spoke to the need to make sure Muni is funded and can provide the service we need. We will be following up with each and every one of them to make sure we make real Muni funding a reality in 2022.

Thanks to our sponsors!
