Hi friend,

Right now, Congress is negotiating the Build Back Better Act, which could become the most significant federal action to combat climate change EVER. As you read this, different committees in the House are reviewing and voting on critical provisions of the bill. If we get this right, it could mean millions of good-paying green jobs, a pathway to 100% clean energy for the whole country by 2035, and a commitment to invest billions of dollars in Black, Brown, and low-income communities that the climate crisis has hit the hardest.

As we see impacts of climate change in real time – from Hurricane Ida to the wildfires on the West – we must continue to urge our members of Congress to support three critical components of our fight against climate change, which are being addressed in the Build Back Better Act. As this legislation makes its way through Congress, we want to ensure that the following components receive the necessary funding to make a significant impact on our climate and our communities:

1. A pathway to 100% clean energy nationwide by 2035 to address the root cause of climate change
2. Significant Investments in Environmental Justice for the communities that have been hit hardest by pollution, the COVID-19 Pandemic, and Climate Change. As an example, we need to make sure Congress takes action now to replace every single lead service line in the country.
3. Common sense measures to create good jobs and protect families from harmful pollution. As example, it’s time for us to transition to electric school buses that will help kids have clean air.

This is an exciting moment. The opportunity for positive change is enormous! But the Fossil Fuel Industry and others are pushing back against these transformative investments, and we have to make sure our voices are heard! By telling our Representatives where we stand, we can be a part of rebuilding a fair, just economy, and addressing climate change head on.
