COVID-19 infections around Phoenix are surging. And the worst part is that kids are getting sick now too: one in every six new cases in Maricopa County is a child younger than 12.

We can all agree that we need our kids in school and in the safest learning environment possible. I'm proud that Congress has acted to provide significant support for our schools in the American Rescue Plan to help fight this terrible pandemic.

Sadly, Governor Ducey has tried to use these funds to incentivize policies that SPREAD the virus, not fight it. This policy is not only illegal, it's immoral. I'll always be on the side of science, our kids, and their safety and I'll continue to do my job to make sure that students have the resources necessary to stay safe. I'll stand up to anyone who puts politics ahead of children's health.
