Dear Subscriber,
The remnants of Hurricane Ida that flooded the Northeastern region on Sept. 1st were both record-breaking and deadly, evidence of a new chapter of intense weather events.
The major flooding in underground subway stations, streets and apartments the city endured that week shows New York City is not prepared to withstand more frequent extreme weather.
City Limits has won a competitive matching grant to bring in a Report for America corps member responsible for covering climate change, the environment and health in NYC. We need to raise half of this reporter's salary to close the deal.
Our goal is to crowdfund an additional $5,000 in the next two weeks.
Your contribution will help us power up our climate change reporting. How is the MTA going to address the risk of flash flooding on underground subway platforms? How will the city prepare in advance for another weather event? What will it take to move New York away from fossil fuels?
Will you support our Report for America corps member today?
We want to report on the many risks our city is susceptible to, particularly its most vulnerable communities who are usually the ones who bear the brunt of extreme weather, and hold city officials accountable for their slow preparedness response to climate change.
