Trust for Public Land
John,

Thousands of you wrote, emailed, and voted over the last week, and I’m pleased to announce that the 2020 membership card will feature Kochevar Open Space in Colorado! Whether this was the photo you voted for or not, I think you’ll agree with me that it does a marvelous job of representing the work we do together to protect public lands and build parks for people.

I’d like to thank all of our supporters who cast a vote last week. It shows how involved you are with the work and the mission of The Trust for Public Land.

Simply put, we create parks and protect land for people, ensuring healthy, livable communities for generations to come. In practice, that mission statement translates into many different kinds of activities. In the coming year:
  • We will fight to protect our natural heritage. While the Trump Administration is working to sell off sections of Bears Ears National Monument to the highest bidder, we are working non-stop in Congress to ensure that the remaining national monuments under threat don’t meet the same fate.
  • We will continue to preserve our national parks. There are approximately 2.6 million acres of privately and state-owned land or “inholdings” that exist in national parks across the country. We’ve purchased several of these inholdings and integrated them into the parks, but we still have a long way to go.
  • We will improve even more neighborhoods. We work with local residents to design and renovate parks, gardens, playgrounds, and natural areas to meet their communities’ needs.
  • We will work even harder to save our public lands. Some in Congress want to transfer public lands to the states — who could sell them to the highest bidder. In states where voters have approved taxpayer dollars for conservation, officials are instead using the money for other programs. We will see to it that public lands remain public and that every conservation dollar is put to its intended use.
  • And, as we enter a very important election year, we need all our supporters to make their voices heard and help prevent harmful legislation from sneaking through.
Thousands of our supporters — public land advocates like you — have written to Congress this year on the importance of protecting public lands. You care about the same issues we do, and you want to do the right thing. The best thing you can do to help our fight is to make gift of $35 or more today to become a 2020 member of The Trust for Public Land. Your support will fuel the programs I mentioned above and many more as well.

Thank you for all your help.

Sincerely,
Kim Elliot Signature
