Hurricanes to the south. Wildfires to the west. Devastating floods to the east.

The extreme weather events we’ve witnessed recently have made the reality and trajectory of climate change painfully clear. The effects of climate change will be particularly hard on a state like Maryland where our environment is essential to our economic well-being.

We’re learning that our infrastructure is not built to withstand the effects of climate change. That’s why I supported the bipartisan infrastructure plan to rebuild our roads and bridges, electrical grid, and water systems to ensure we’re better prepared in the face of extreme weather events.

But it can’t end there. Making our infrastructure more climate-resilient will mean little if we don’t also take action to address the root cause of climate change: greenhouse gas emissions. The infrastructure plan would also make strides toward reducing emissions by making meaningful investments in public transit, electric vehicles, and EV charging infrastructure.

I’m going to fight to make our infrastructure more climate-resilient and address the climate crisis, but we need to rally public support, too. [[link removed]]
