[link removed] [[link removed]]Dear John,
Maine farmers work hard to create a secure and healthy food system for our families. Across all 16 counties, our farmers and growers are exceptional, diverse, and integral to our communities. Unfortunately — like most industries — climate change is having direct and lasting impacts on farming in Maine.
Farmers in inland and Western Maine battled drought throughout this summer, while the July rains in the rest of the state ran off the dry soils of some farms, caused rot on others, and prevented hay farmers from bringing their crops in. Climate change is making precipitation patterns, frost dates, and other seasonal cycles unpredictable — and unpredictable weather can wipe out entire crops and be devastating for farmers.
I talked with Caitlin Frame and Andy Smith from the Milkhouse Farm and Creamery in Monmouth to understand what farm owners need to mitigate damages from climate change now. Hit play to hear some of what we talked about :

Maine farmers like Andy and Caitlin need Maine’s entire federal delegation to support investments in climate infrastructure through the Build Back Better Act. We know Rep. Pingree is supportive of this necessary legislation, but we need Maine’s Sens. Collins and King and Rep. Golden to have Maine farmers’ backs, too.

SIGN THE PETITION [[link removed]]It takes less than a minute to sign our petition and make your voice heard. Maine’s farmers are depending on us.
Thanks in advance for taking action,
Abbie
