Hi John,
High-speed rural broadband is so lacking that in some communities in my district, their main hope is waiting for Elon Musk to do something about it. In places where there’s no cell service, even using your phone as a hotspot isn’t an option.
We should have a federally funded rural broadband program (which would also be a jobs program) the way we had a rural electrification one during the early and mid-20th century. This electrification program created thousands of jobs as electricians travelled the country stringing wire and wiring homes, farms, and businesses for electricity. Additionally, the federal government provided money directly to cooperatives (not private companies) to electrify their communities.
There are so many problems we’re facing that could be solved if Congress gave a damn: jobs, climate, homelessness, healthcare.
We shouldn’t shy away from big, bold programs. If we could do them during the New Deal, we can do them now — and better.
With your help, I want to win election to Congress and fight for bold programs like a jobs guarantee, the Green New Deal, a housing guarantee, and rural broadband. Can you give $7 now to help me win?
