Dear John,
The United States has an obligation to help those who helped us in Afghanistan. And as a member of Congress, I have a responsibility to continue to do all I can to assist Americans and our Afghan allies in evacuating the country and ensure federal agencies are as well. As a member of the Foreign Affairs committee, I will also work to hold the Taliban accountable to upholding the terms of our exit and allowing folks who want to leave Afghanistan to do so freely.
I was so pleased I could help Mohammad Afzal Afzali, an Afghan translator, evacuate from Afghanistan with his wife and two children. Mr. Afzali’s story is so inspiring. He helped translate interviews and conferences in partnership with the U.S. Embassy in Afghanistan, and although his work helped our country with our mission in Afghanistan, it put his life and the lives of his loved ones in great danger. It was critical that Mr. Afzali and his family evacuated, which is why I did all I could to advocate on his behalf. You can read more about his story in the Dallas Morning News.
Mohammad Afzal Afzali with his family in Afghanistan
Mr. Afzali helped four children come to the U.S. as well so they could reunite with their mother. It's clear he has a servant’s heart. I am so glad that Mr. Afzali and his family were able to get to America safely and I look forward to welcoming them to North Texas.
Our mission in getting those out who want to leave Afghanistan did not end on August 31 and I'm committed to continuing to work with my constituents and federal agencies to make sure we get Americans, Afghans who served with us and other at-risk folks safely out of the country.
My office is continuing to work with the State Department to help with evacuations in any way we can. Call my office at 972-972-7949 if you have questions or need information on how my office can help Afghans currently at risk and in need of evacuation.
It is an honor to serve North Texas, where I was born and raised.
Sincerely,
Colin Allred Member of Congress
