Bail Reform [[link removed]]
On Thanksgiving Day 2017, Texas State Trooper Damon Allen was shot and killed during a routine traffic stop. The killer was out on a $15,000 bond, despite his violent history against law enforcement and other crimes.
I was proud to join Gov. Greg Abbott today as he signed Senate Bill 6, the Damon Allen Act, into law. These senseless murders have no place in our great state. This bill prohibits violent offenders or repeat offenders from being released on personal bonds, and mandates judges to consider the offender's criminal history before setting bail.
Moreover, magistrates will receive more training and an enhanced understanding of criminal history to keep dangerous offenders off the streets.
As elected officials, our #1 duty is public safety. A large part of that is passing tougher legislation that keeps felons and dangerous criminals behind bars.
As Lt. Governor, I will never stop fighting for a safer and more secure Texas.
I am committed to supporting legislation that will keep Texans safe and keep violent criminals off the streets. Now, more than ever, we need leaders who will stand for public safety and do everything they can to protect the people of Texas. May I count on your financial support of $5-10-25 or more today to help me continue fighting to keep our communities safe? [[link removed]]
