Last week, I was out knocking doors in Rutherfordton, which sits in the NC-11 half of Rutherford County -- one of the reddest counties in the district.

It was a classic late summer Carolina afternoon -- blue skies, sunny but not steamy. One older woman I met took a break from watching a movie to talk on her front stoop. I asked her what issues are most important to her right now and she didn’t miss a beat.

“Defeating Cawthorn and protecting our democracy,” she said. “He’s dangerous.” She quickly added “and abortion rights,” describing how incredibly concerned she and her daughter were about the Texas abortion ban.

A few hours later, I heard this echoed in Forest City, as I talked with Rutherford Dems in a parking lot as the sun went down. “I’m so angry I could spit nails,” one woman said as we talked about the Texas law and we talked about the urgent need to pass federal legislation protecting the right to choose.

On September 18, we’re hosting our next day of action -- we’ll be knocking doors in four counties (COVID safe), hosting a virtual phone bank and postcarding. Can you chip in to help fund this important organizing work? Every dollar you give goes towards the resources it takes to make a day of action happen -- clipboards and pens, gas in the tank, masks, and, of course, snacks.

For too long, places considered “too red” to win, or “too rural” to reach have been neglected by campaigns; but this approach doesn’t translate into winning elections, or creating the kind of change we need in Western NC.

That’s why we will be knocking doors in every county across NC-11 before the end of the year -- because this is, hands down, the best way to connect directly with people, to build bridges, and to win.

Thank you for being with us, every step of the way,
Jasmine
