Dear team,
Today we filed our opening brief with the U.S. Supreme Court in our
case, Dobbs v. Jackson Women's Health Organization. This is our third
time in five years defending abortion rights before the U.S. Supreme
Court. But this time is different.
This case challenges Mississippi's ban on abortion after 15 weeks of
pregnancy. The ban is a direct challenge to the Supreme Court's
landmark 1973 decision in Roe v. Wade, which holds that each person
has the right to decide whether to continue a pre-viability pregnancy.
Mississippi has asked the Supreme Court to overturn that decision.
There are no half measures here.
Any ruling upholding Mississippi's ban guts that core holding, and our
right to make fundamental decisions about our lives, our futures, and
our families. Right now, Texas has managed to ban almost all abortions
even as Roe stands. And half the states in the country are poised to
ban abortion entirely should the Supreme Court do anything but reject
Mississippi's request.
We cannot do this work alone. We filed this case on behalf of Jackson
Women's Health Organization-our client for 20 years and the last
remaining abortion clinic in Mississippi. Learn more about Jackson
Women's Health Organization and The Pink House Fund, which supports
people accessing abortion in Mississippi, here.
