Hi John,
Today is the 27th anniversary of the original passage of the Violence Against Women Act -- a landmark bill that created and expanded comprehensive, cost-effective protections for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence, and stalking.
VAWA remains a critical legislative achievement. It has greatly improved federal, state, and local responses to these crimes since its enactment. But unfortunately, this major milestone for women and abuse victims is still waiting to be reauthorized by the Senate after it lapsed in 2018.
This shouldn't be a partisan issue, John -- the Senate needs to do its job in restoring vital protections for women and abuse victims.

As more and more states are enacting restrictive abortion laws, often making it harder for women to escape abusive relationships -- this is an absolutely critical time for VAWA to be reauthorized.
The safety and wellbeing of women in this country must not fall by the wayside of legislative priorities.
As President Biden said about the passage of VAWA, "This should not be a Democratic or Republican issue -- it's about standing up against the abuse of power and preventing violence."
I completely agree. That's why we must demand that the Senate do the right thing and reauthorize the Violence Against Women Act. Click here to sign on to our petition.
