In 1965, President Johnson signed the Voting Right Act into law — landmark legislation banning discrimination at the ballot box. But since then, the conservative majority on the Supreme Court has gutted several of its critical protections, leaving voters vulnerable to new voter suppression bills, including what just became law in Texas and Georgia. In 2021 alone, Republicans have introduced over 400 voter suppression bills in 49 state legislatures. Eighteen states have passed 30 new voter suppression laws — because they believe that when more people vote, they lose.
We must come together to stand up for voting rights and protect our democracy. Thanks for signing on, John |
