Save the Children Action Network is the political voice for kids.

Dear John -

I wanted to make sure you saw the message I received below from Save the Children Trustee Jennifer Garner after her recent visit to a temporary center for Afghan refugees.

Although the children and families she met have arrived safely on U.S. soil, their journeys to create new lives free from conflict are far from over. And thousands are still seeking refuge.

We have a moral obligation to ensure that children fleeing violence can seek assistance and have their rights respected.

Send a message to President Biden today: we must open all humanitarian pathways for displaced Afghans seeking safety in the United States.

Christy,

Tens of thousands of children and families have been forced to flee Afghanistan as conflict escalates, leaving their homes, possessions and everything they’ve ever known behind. My heart is heavy with worry for all the children whose futures will be impacted by the trauma of violence and displacement. That’s why I’m determined to do everything I can to help, and I hope you will, too, Christy.

On Monday, I joined Save the Children’s President and CEO Janti Soeripto to visit a temporary refugee center that has been set up near Washington, D.C. This is the first stop for thousands of Afghan refugees arriving in the U.S., and it is so important that we help them feel safe and welcomed.

Save the Children is working to meet the most urgent needs of children and families as they arrive. They’re distributing hygiene kits, baby supplies and PPE to protect refugees from COVID-19.

They’re also creating spaces where children can relax, play and feel safe – this may sound simple, but a world of healing happens in these areas. Children play when they feel safe, and this may be the first time these children have felt safe in months. Play supports resiliency in the short term and helps build children's innate capacity to heal from trauma in the long term.

At the refugee center, I saw these effects first-hand, and how support from dedicated champions for children like you can make a real difference.

Please, will you join me in supporting thousands of Afghan children and families who urgently need our help? Your support today can carry them through this particularly difficult time and help them build the brighter futures they deserve.

Thank you for giving what you can. Your tireless commitment to creating change for the children who need it most means so much.

Jen Garner
Save the Children Trustee

P.S. Even if you can’t make a donation today, you can still make a difference by joining my friends at Save the Children Action Network and advocate for Afghan children in their moment of need. Add your name to their petition calling on President Biden to protect Afghan children and families.
