John — Did you hear? The House Natural Resources Committee just voted to repeal Trump-era provisions calling for drilling in the Arctic Refuge (ANWR).That means that, as of right now, the reconciliation package being considered in the House will provide protection to the natural wonders and wildlife in ANWR.
This measure passed in a party line vote, John. That means that every pro-environment SEEC member we elected or reelected in 2020 was absolutely crucial to getting this far. Will you help us get across the finish line by making a donation today to protect and defend our SEEC members who are making real progress on protecting the Arctic Refuge in Congress? While we work to get permanent protection for the Arctic Refuge in the House, the Biden Administration is also working to keep the drilling leases that were sold during the Trump Administration on ice.
For context: When Donald Trump put ANWR up for sale in the closing days of his term, most of the drilling rights were purchased by the Alaska Investment Development and Export Authority (AIDEA). Now, the AIDEA wants to start doing testing for seismic activity and other fieldwork that would be the first steps before actual drilling.
But the Department of Interior ( led by former SEEC Congresswoman Deb Haaland ) denied the request. While this will delay drilling, it will not provide ANWR permanent, lasting, protection.
That is what SEEC members are fighting for in the halls of Congress. With so many developments happening so quickly here, will you have their back by making a donation today? [[link removed]]
Thank you,
