Friend,
Progress is rarely something visible to the naked eye. Throughout history we’ve made incremental change through policy, advocacy, and perseverance. Each nudge of the needle feeling victorious yet void of a sense of completion.
In the divisive aftermath of George Floyd’s death, I began the removal process of Confederate monuments throughout Virginia’s capitol. Last week these efforts culminated in the removal of one of the largest symbols of the Confederacy in our country. Watching the 12-ton statue of Robert E. Lee lifted from its pedestal as the Black mayor of Richmond gave me great pride. We now must continue the fight towards equity for ALL in this country and never look back. Early voting in Virginia begins Friday. Together we’ve got this!
