Good afternoon

Did you see the news? Baroness Meacher’s Assisted Dying Bill is due to be debated in the House of Lords on Friday 22nd October - just five weeks from now.

We’ve launched a crowdfunder to power the campaign ahead of the big day. You can back us to ensure we have an impact on parliamentarians and the press, and make the most of this historic opportunity. Please, chip in whatever you can today.

I’ve included last week’s email below with some more details of our plans ahead of the debate. Thank you for being with us on this journey. Together, we will change the law.

All the best,

Good afternoon friend,

On Friday 22nd October the House of Lords will debate a new Assisted Dying Bill for the first time in six years. Now is the time for the campaign to go big and make our mark - and you can make sure members of the House of Lords hear our message ahead of the debate. We need to act fast, the debate is in just six weeks. Can you chip in today to help pass an assisted dying law that is safe, fair and compassionate?

Our campaign ahead of this debate - formally known as the Second Reading of the Bill - is critical. We need to make sure that supportive Peers are present, briefed, and ready to speak out. You will have a vital part to play in motivating them - but first we need to make sure we have the resources in place to take us all the way. If you can, please back us today to turbo-charge the campaign to change the law.

The Second Reading is a key moment to establish support for assisted dying in Parliament. At the Second Reading, Peers will take turns to assert their position on the issue, making arguments designed to persuade the rest of the House to take their side ahead of any vote. At the end of the day it’s a numbers game. One we intend to win. Soon, we’ll need you to take action by directly contacting the House of Lords. But first we need the funding in place to defeat our opponents.

The time for an assisted dying law is now and we need to be ready for the fight. Thank you for being here with us.

Onwards.

P.S. Soon we'll be putting plans in place for thousands of people to directly contact the House of Lords in support of this Bill. With your donation today we can make sure that is the biggest and boldest campaign ever undertaken.

Our campaign is powered by members - people who support us with a small regular gift so we can plan out the most effective actions to bring about an assisted dying law. Sign up and join thousands of other Dignity in Dying members across the country, from just £2 a month:
