John — Rep. Lucy McBath here, writing today with my friend and colleague Rep. Colin Allred who represents Texas’s Thirty Second District right outside Dallas. 

That may leave you scratching your head… We’re known for peaches, Texas is known for BBQ. We’ve got Dawgs. They’ve got Hook ‘Em Horns and Baylor Bears (Colin's alma mater). And not to rub it in Colin, but one of our states voted for Joe Biden in the 2020 Presidential election…

Rep. Colin Allred here: Lucy likes to rub that one in whenever she gets a chance... But our districts have much more in common than you’d think. We’re both top targets of National Republicans as they try to take back the House in 2022. And with Republican-controlled redistricting looming in both Texas and Georgia, the urgency here is very real.

So, that’s why we’re teaming up today. National political pundits have identified our suburban districts as two “top Republican targets.” With our FEC deadline coming up quickly at the end of September, could you split a grassroots donation between our re-election campaigns to help Democrats hold the House in 2022?

Unfortunately, there’s even more that Georgia and Texas have in common at the moment:

• Both of our states passed restrictive voter suppression laws to try and tamp down the effects of rising Democratic majorities and changing demographics.


• The GA and TX GOP have both passed “Heartbeat Bill” legislation, effectively banning abortion in Texas and potentially in Georgia as well (our bill is still under a court challenge). 


• And remember, GOP members of Congress are even admitting they intend to redistrict their way to victory in 2022: “We have redistricting coming up, and the Republicans control most of that process in most of the states around the country,” Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-Texas) said at the Faith and Freedom conference in June. “That alone should get us the majority back.” 

As you can see, John, Texas and Georgia Republicans are NOT messing around. Their dangerous combination of voter suppression, gerrymandering, and far-right extremist policies to fire up their conservative bases ahead of 2022 could very well sink both of us (and Democrats’ chances of holding the House), so we have to prepare right now for the worst possible outcome.
