Friend,
I am outraged by the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold a Texas law banning abortions after six weeks. Like the millions of Americans who overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to an abortion by a 3-to-1 margin, I am horrified by this law’s deputization of private citizens to sue anyone who helped someone receive an abortion for a $10,000 bounty.
It’s an outright attack on reproductive rights and women’s control over their own bodies. The law will disproportionately affect low-income women, women of color, and transgender individuals who are faced with increasing barriers to basic healthcare and who may have a harder time traveling to another state to receive an abortion.
Every person — no matter their race, class, or creed — deserves to make their own healthcare decisions with the help of a trusted confidant.
Since the Supreme Court upheld the Texas abortion ban, it sets a dangerous precedent for GOP state legislatures across the country — and with a Mississippi abortion law set to come before the Court later this fall, this isn’t going away anytime soon.
Now, the House must pass the Women’s Health Protection Act (WHPA), which expands federal protections and accounts for challenges from conservative state legislatures.
If you’re with me, sign my petition calling on the House to pass the Women’s Health Protection Act — we need to fight back against this unjust law and Supreme Court ruling and do everything we can to preserve reproductive rights. [[link removed]]

The WHPA already has 205 co-sponsors in the House and 47 in the Senate. However, if we don’t abolish the filibuster, it’s virtually guaranteed to become another bill in Mitch McConnell’s legislative graveyard.
Without ten Republican votes, Senate Republicans will just filibuster this bill.
But the House has a clear Democratic majority to codify Roe v. Wade and put the ball in the Senate’s court. Then the Senate should take it up and force every senator to go on the record on where they stand on this question, so the American people — and all voters — will know where they stand.
So, here are the three things we need to do:
First — Protect and expand our Democratic majorities in the House and the Senate in 2022.
Second — Abolish the filibuster. For far too long, Mitch McConnell has weaponized the filibuster to obstruct our path to progress.
Third — Expand the Court. Donald Trump and the GOP have destroyed the Court’s fundamental purpose to serve as a nonpartisan check on the executive and legislative branches.
I wish we had the votes to abolish the filibuster, expand the Supreme Court, and enshrine Roe v. Wade in federal law today. But there simply aren’t enough Senators who agree with me — and unless that changes soon, our only alternative is to do everything we can to expand our majorities in the midterms.
I know it might seem like there’s a long road ahead of us, but I’m positive we can overcome these obstacles by standing together. Right now, a simple and effective way to take action is signing my petition demanding the House pass the Women’s Health Protection Act and put the pressure on my Senate colleagues.

To enact transformative change, it’s going to take hard work and relentless perseverance. However, it hasn’t stopped us before and I know it won’t now. Thank you for being a part of my team.
