Friend,
Yesterday was a hard day for all New Yorkers.
20 years later, we remember where we were as if it was yesterday. We remember the horrific scenes and palpable fear of the unknown. We remember the lives lost and the bravery of our first responder heroes who ran into the fire. We remember the pain of the families who lost love ones and we shed a tear.
We also remember that what makes NY special is what makes NY a target for those who oppose democracy and diversity.
And we ask: why does it take tragedy for us to come together and focus on the commonalities rather than the differences? Imagine how strong we’d be, if we as Americans held that same spirit of unity everyday that we did on September 12, 2001 and in the days after.
Today, the day after the 20th anniversary of 9/11, let us recommit ourselves everyday to the NY values we hold dear: unity and freedom for all.
And remember, that in the end, love wins. Always.
