John,
A lawsuit filed today in Houston District Court claims Mayor Sylvester Turner and Houston City Council members violated the funding provisions of Proposition A, which passed with 74% of the vote in November 2018. According to one of the plaintiffs, city leaders are "violat[ing] the law by diverting tax dollars dedicated to streets and drainage to other purposes."
Guys, this is exactly what I have been talking about for the last year. The drainage fee should be spent on drainage. Instead, Turner has worked to redefine what drainage means so that he can spend the money as he pleases. Fixing potholes is not a drainage project! Transferring Public Works staff to the DDSRF payroll is not a drainage project!
Once again, Mayor Turner has done everything in his power to convolute the will of the voters to fit his personal agenda. Enough is enough. When I am mayor, the law and the will of the voters will be respected and upheld.
Early voting began today. Today the tides change. Houston, we are going to do better.
