Politics has always made for strange bedfellows and this has always been the case with the ACLU. More often than not, we are on far opposite sides of the spectrum, but when it comes to matters of privacy, there have been times we’ve been on the same page. This is true when it comes to the recent expansion of California’s red flag laws – they have cited due process concerns and have also said the law could "lack the relationship or skills required to make an appropriate assessment." We agree.
And to further the point, read about the elderly veteran who endured a visit from the police, had his guns removed and was fired from his job as a school crossing guard – all because some ignorant and reckless waitress overheard and reported a portion of a conversation. This should enrage us – this is what red flag laws produce.
