Dear friend,
Where were you? It's a question that everyone has an answer to. I was at work and we were all stunned. For what felt like an eternity none of us could take our eyes off the news. We listened and hung on every bit of information. It was unsettling. Heartbreaking. Scary. Like you, I remember all of it so vividly.
I also remember how immediately following the attacks the country came together. It didn’t matter if people were republicans or democrats. We were Americans.
Twenty years later that feeling of unity feels a little less vivid, but our mutual obligation to help each other hasn’t changed. Our first responders from that day still need help. Our troops that are now just coming home need our respect and support. Our friends and families whose lives were changed forever that day need our understanding and commitment to continue to build a more perfect union.
We will never forget the lives lost on September 11th, and the sacrifices that so many Americans have made since. Together we can rebuild - two decades later it is not too late to recognize the opportunities to rebuild and become a better nation.
Thank you,
Monica Tranel
