EMERGENCY RESCUE OF 250 CHICKENS!
This morning [Friday, Sept 10], the Official NYC Kaporos Team were the first responders to a terrifying scene - multiple crates of baby chickens had fallen off a transport truck making a sharp turn, and were abandoned at a dangerously busy intersection. Nearly 250 birds were injured, running loose in the streets, and trapped in direct hot sun. They were being trucked to Kaporos sites.
Our team assessed and triaged every bird, and dove under trucks in the busy road to make sure every single chicken was safe.
Thank you to Allie Feldman Taylor of Voters For Animal Rights for alerting us and acting quickly at the scene, in addition to our other skillful volunteers. We are now partnering with Animal Care Centers of NYC (ACC) to place the birds in good homes and get them the care they need.

The Alliance to End Chickens as Kaporos is a project of United Poultry Concerns. Formed in New York City in June 2010, the Alliance is an association of groups and individuals who seek to replace the use of chickens in Kaporos ceremonies with money or other non-animal symbols of atonement. The Alliance does not oppose Kaporos per se, only the cruel and unnecessary use of chickens in the ceremony.
