John,
Today is the 20th anniversary of one of the darkest days in American history -- September 11th, 2001.
The senseless acts of violence that took place on this day 20 years ago took 2,996 lives. Every one of those 2,996 people had friends or family or neighbors whose lives were also irrevocably changed.
Today, I mourn for the victims, their loved ones, and the first responders affected by the events that took place on 9/11.
I’m also reminded of my time in the Navy and how, for me and so many others, 9/11 was a renewed call to service. In the wake of these attacks, Americans displayed grit and resilience, and came together to protect one another.
For those of you reading this email who were, and continue to be, affected by the tragedy of 9/11 -- I send my deepest condolences and sympathies. Know that I am thinking of you.
Sincerely,
Elaine
