We've all been moved beyond words on this 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks. As a Veteran, it's especially symbolic to also know that this Patriot's Day is my first as a member of the military at peace. From the firefighters who climbed the South Tower even after the North WTC had already collapsed to the 5,686 servicemembers we've since lost to the War on Terror, there are too many stories of bravery and sacrifice to memorialize here.
That's why, this morning I was proud to join Tampa Fire Rescue, the Special Operations Commander General Clarke, and Mayor Jane Castor in remembering and paying tribute to those we lost. It was a solemn occasion, a moving ceremony, and quiet moment of personal reflection.
I hope you join me in paying your respects today whether that be at an event, watching one of the moving tributes, or even with just a quiet moment of reflection. This is how we truly #NeverForget.
