John,

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks — a day in our nation’s history that changed our country forever.

We saw the best and the worst of humanity in the aftermath of 9/11. And it’s so important that we never forget the sense of community that we all felt in the days and weeks following the attacks. Democrats and Republicans alike put politics aside and stood together in a bipartisan display of strength and resiliency.

This display of togetherness during some of our darkest hours is a big part of what makes America truly exceptional. Right now, however, our country is divided — more so than we have been in a long time. But we still have time to chart a different course.

Unspeakable violence brought us together 20 years ago, and it’s important that we spend time today to remember those we lost in the attacks. Let’s also consider how peace, health, and prosperity can bring us together now.
