Fur farming is cruel and produces a product no one needs. While there are many reasons why Canada should ban fur farming, below are just a few of them: Animal Cruelty - Animal cruelty is inherent in the fur farming industry. Minks, foxes and chinchillas suffer their lives in wire cages so small they can barely turn around. Confinement causes neurotic behaviors and physical distress. The animals die by gassing or electrocution before one year of age. Environmental Damage - Fur farming can cause extensive environmental damage. In Nova Scotia, the runoff from mink farm operations have polluted water sources and soil, threatening various species of wildlife. Public Health - Mink farms are recognized as a hotspot for the coronavirus. Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been outbreaks of COVID-19 on over 430 mink fur farms across 12 countries in Europe and North America, including Canada. |
