Team,

Today, on the twentieth anniversary of one of the darkest days in our nation's history, we honor and remember the 2,977 people in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania who were killed by an act of terrorism.

We remember the first responders who ran toward the danger and into the fire to save as many lives as they could. We also remember the thousands of American service members, many of who volunteered that very day to protect our country and help bring those responsible to justice.

Today we honor the resilience of Americans across the country who came together through shock and grief to meet the moment as a nation.

As we observe the conclusion of America's military mission in Afghanistan and an end to our nation's longest war on this anniversary, we owe our service members a debt of gratitude. It must remain an urgent priority of our government to ensure they receive the care, support, and respect they've earned.

We have a responsibility to never forget, and I hope you will join me in remembering those we lost on this day.

In solidarity,

Chris Pappas
