Hi John,
“What’s going on, what’s going on, this is your brother Councilman Basheer Jones…” This warm welcome is not new to those who have been closely following Basheer Jones on social media like we have these past couple of weeks. And now we are finally here - Get Out The Vote (GOTV) weekend for the Cleveland Primary elections! We are at a critical moment as we transition into these final days to reach every voter we can.
Why is a mayoral race important anyway? What do Mayors do? In the city of Cleveland, the mayor serves as the city's chief executive and is responsible for proposing a budget, signing legislation into law, appointing departmental directors, overseeing the city's day-to-day operations, representing the city on the state, national, and international levels, and appointing all nine voting members of the Cleveland Metropolitan School Board. To fulfill these responsibilities that make an immediate, tangible impact in people’s daily lives no candidate will center community like Basheer Jones will. In the past two weeks you have heard from our organizing team, Aysha Ahmed and Mohamed Gula about the value of supporting a candidate like Basheer Jones. Aysha highlighted the inspiration of Basheer Jones’s message from his Mother’s legacy of service and gratitude. Mohamed spoke to how Basheer honors the powerful responsibility of being a voice for the voiceless in our communities closest to home.
Do not miss out on the chance to support a candidate like this.
Our team travels to Ohio this Friday. Join our journey and make a donation to help elect Basheer Jones as the first Muslim Mayor of the city of Cleveland. Please keep us in your prayers so that our efforts will be most successful.
Election day is Tuesday, September 14, 2021. And do not forget to call, text, email, DM your friends and family in Cleveland to make sure they have a plan to vote! P.S. Fun fact - Did you know Carl Stokes is considered to be the first popularly elected African American sworn in as mayor of a major U.S. city? The Organizing Team Mohamed Gula & Aysha Ahmed |
