John,

It has been 20 years since our nation was forever changed by the horrors that took place on September 11, 2001. I will never forget the fear, sadness, and grief our nation went through that only grew in the days and months that followed.

I will never forget the bravery of the first responders who selflessly ran toward the danger that day. Some laid down their lives while others continue to live with both visible and invisible health issues because of the attacks. We owe them all a great deal of gratitude and thanks.

It's on all of us to ensure the heroes receive the benefits, services, and appreciation they deserve and to bring justice to all the victims, survivors, and their families. Today, I'm recommitting to defending our democracy and ensuring our nation lives up to the American ideals of freedom, equality, and justice for all.
