Hi John
Yesterday, the City of Clarkston proclaimed our support for the Syrian Kurds.
At Clarkston City Hall, I read a proclamation adopted by the city - alongside Kurdish refugees, citizens of Kurdish heritage, and allies - in support of Kurdish rights and denouncing U.S. withdrawal from northern Syria.
The U.S. must not abdicate our alliance with the Syrian Kurds. The sudden withdrawal of U.S. troops is endangering our Kurdish allies and could enable a resurgence by the Islamic State.
This latest blunder by President Trump will only further degrade America's leadership role in the world - and yet, Senator Perdue is silent on this crisis.
Being the mayor of a town that has welcomed those seeking refuge from over 40 different countries has put me face to face with the realities of America's foreign policy decisions. Regimes rise and fall. Leaders argue with other leaders. But at the end of the day, families like yours and mine - children, the common man and woman - are the ones who suffer the most. We must speak out and act against injustice everywhere.
Peace over violence. Solidarity with our Kurdish allies.
