Dear John,
I want to share some updates with you from Congress and across the country. Here are three things to know today:
1. I am proud to say that the John R. Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act passed in the House of Representatives. This piece of legislation works to restore Civil Rights-era voter protections and build new safeguards that target the challenges voters face today. I urge my colleagues in the Senate to pass this bill swiftly, so that all citizens, regardless of race, creed, or party, can participate in the democratic process.
2. The 2022 budget, also known as the Build Back Better Budget, continues to progress through the Capitol as representatives propose ideas, calculate figures, and work together to make a plan that works for working families. Cutting-edge investments in technology and job creation, public schools, and health care will help our nation thrive – without raising taxes for anybody earning less than $400,000 a year.
3. Tomorrow is September 11, the 20th anniversary of the tragic September 11, 2001 attacks. I extend my support and prayers to the families grieving loved ones, the thousands of innocent lives lost, and the spirit of our nation, which will always triumph over fear and hate. My thoughts are with you all.
Thank you for reading my updates and for your ongoing engagement. If you are interested in supporting my reelection to hold our House majority, click here to make a contribution of any size: [link removed]
Stay well, enjoy your weekend, and know that I am working hard for you every day.
Sincerely,
Congressman Sanford D. Bishop, Jr.
