This is what the founders were worried about.

Leahy for Vermont

Friend,

Today, after reversing his decision to host the G-7 summit at his own resort over the weekend, President Trump said the following:

I don't think you people, with this phony Emoluments Clause -- and by the way, I would say that it's cost anywhere from $2 billion to $5 billion to be president.

That's what the president of the United States thinks about those of us who honor and respect the Constitution: "You people."

And even more concerning is what he thinks of the Constitution: "Phony."

The founders wrote the Emoluments Clause into the Constitution in order to prevent the president from accepting gifts or any money from foreign governments or from our own government, beyond his or her salary. They were rightfully concerned about the exact type of leader Trump has turned out to be: selfish and greedy.

It is not phony, Mr. President.

Sign on to let the president know that you DO NOT think the Constitution -- or its defenders -- are phony.

Thank you for speaking out.

Sincerely,

Patrick Leahy
U.S. Senator
